proudly overdressed always, (including whilst typing this). This site is an unapologetic ode to fashion with no rules and no gatekeeping, just the belief that style should always make you feel yourself. You don't have to agree with me, and you probably won't, but at least this will never be boring.
I
don't need to tell you my name, I'm sure you can work it out, but I can however tell you a little bit more about me. I am perpetually overdressed, for everything, the kind of person you see in heels at the supermarket.
I am suspicious of anyone who tells me 'I just threw this on', because no one just throws something on, there was a mirror involved, all angles were checked and there are at least three backup options on the bedroom floor . And, I have never, ever, learnt how to stop talking. Even in my childhood I was a tiny human with big opinions, I'd redress my Barbie dolls because I didn't like the outfits that they came with by default. I was persistent on wearing clunky plastic heels. Everywhere. And I fell head over heels for 'Monster High' a horror/barbie doll combination that terrified my parents, defied everything my older sister would have been interested in and always raised an eyebrow or two. Even as I got a little older, I spent summers customising my school uniform just so I didn't blend in. Some call it defiant, I call it authentic.
I started this blog because there is always a good reason not to do something, and those little moments have stopped me from launching this site properly, but as well as being the reason I'm occasionally late, fashion is my therapy, and it's a lot cheaper too. You'll soon realise that this site is not your typical fashion blog, I'm not going to give you a balanced view on the latest trends, I'm going to tell you, unapologetically, exactly how I feel. I have always had the gift of the gab, a natural gift for talking and charming my way into situations that always made for the best dinner party stories, and it would be a waste to keep things PG. I don't believe in fashion rules, mostly because they're made up by people who don't want you to have any fun. Don't mix and match patterns? Please. Sequins and glitter only at night? Grow up. Around here, the only real rule is... if it makes you feel confident, wear it. And if it makes other people question your fashion sense, wear it twice.
I can try and convince you that I was destined for the career in fashion that I have built myself, but that would be a big fat lie. I tried the whole 'being a serious student' thing. I studied History intensely with the plan of going to Oxford, which is incredibly respectable but utterly uninspiring. The real moment that I decided fashion was the direction I was going to take, was the moment that someone told me 'I'm not sure that this is for you Katie.' What wise words to tell a sixteen year old that just wanted to prove everybody wrong. So I did what I do best, I ignored everyone. Fast forwarding a few years, I studied Fashion Communications and Business Studies at the University of Brighton. University was equal parts caffeine-fueled all-nighters and moments of pure, unfiltered creativity. I thrived on projects that demanded both strategy and imagination, from fashion journalism to branding exercises, learning that the industry is far more than what shows up on a runway. It’s about stories, influence, and the courage to be bold.
During my final year, I had the incredible opportunity to enter the industry at a prestigious fashion boutique. I took full control of marketing and social media for Doodie Stark and, whilst juggling my final major projects, somehow convinced the world that my ideas were good (they even won two accolades at the Drapers Independent Awards 2024, if you must know). That experience taught me that fashion is about instinct, intuition, and taking risks, sometimes huge, sometimes ridiculous, but always worth it. So far.
Katie Alice Marshall is my way of sharing what I know, what I love, and what I think you should be wearing if you’re serious about looking like yourself, only louder, sharper, and better than anyone else told you it should be. Through this blog, I give styling tips, trend insights, and unapologetic opinions on the industry, because if fashion isn’t fun, it’s just clothing. And life? Life is too short for boring outfits. You may also find the odd article on beauty, lifestyle and travel, because forgive a girl for having more than one interest. Wink Wink.
I don’t sugarcoat, I don’t whisper, and I don’t do rules. My goal is simple, to inspire confidence, encourage audacity, and remind you that style is yours to take or leave, but I recommend taking it, fully, without apology.
